Shop keepers want markets to remain open till 11 PM

By Anil Verma

Agra: Shop keepers in popular markets like Sadar bazaar, Raja Mandi and Sanjay Place have demanded permission to keep their shops open till late in evening.

Inspired by Delhi government decision to allow markets to remain open till 11 pm, Agra businessmen are also considering moves to keep markets open to enable tourists and the locals to spend leisure time and make purchases in cool summer evenings. Markets in Agra generally close by 7.30 and 8 pm. Due to erratic power supply, state governments have been generally reluctant to allow shops to remain open after 7 pm. But experience of most shop keepers is that the real rush starts only after 6 pm and by the time the shopping frenzy gathers momentum it is time to down shutters.
